Fintan Whelan was born in Dublin and has spent his adult life in Ireland, Spain and Germany (his current home). His work has been exhibited and acquired by numerous collectors across North America, Europe and Asia, and featured in prominent residential projects in UK and USA. Whelan studied at Dún Laoghaire School of Art und DIT, Mountjoy Sq., Dublin, Ireland. He was artist in residence at Chelsea Harbour Design Centre (London) and currently is preparing for his participation in Venice Biennale 2022. The working process "My way of working has become more meticulous through constantly adding or applying new materials like silk fibres or testing new techniques to push my process to its limits. This continuous experimentation is a key element to my new works.
My objective is to develop my work to a new level, to strive for a new vision and an echo of life as I experience it." Capturing the moment is everything! To echo an energy, a vitality on my canvases motivates me to show up at my studio every day. I continuously add new materials and try out new techniques to push my process to its limit. This approach has brought my work slowly in the direction of abstraction. My abstracts strive to create this fleeting magic and to inspire those who see my work to look more carefully at the world around them, to discover beauty and meaning in unusual places. I pay tribute to the natural world, in all its wonder and chaos, throughout my work. I find a sense of place and make my mark to reflect on the essence of life as I experience it.
