1986 Sintra, Portugal

AnaMary Bilbao (1986), is a Portuguese-Spanish artist. She was born in Sintra (Greater Lisbon), located on the Portuguese Riviera, and she lives and works between Lisbon and London.

She studied Painting and Cinema / Moving image at Ar.Co, a Portuguese independent art school in Lisbon, and is now a PhD student in Artistic Studies – Art and Mediations at Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas – Universidade Nova de Lisboa and in the School of Arts at Birkbeck – University of London.

In 2019 Bilbao was nominated for the 13th Edition of EDP Foundation’s New Artists Award (Portugal), she was one of the recipients of a mixed grand from FCT (from 2015 and until 2019), which enabled her to do research in Johannesburg (South Africa) in 2018 and in London (England), during an academic year (2018-2019), and also the recipient of the 2018 D. Fernando II Visual Arts Prize (Mu.Sa / CMS, Portugal). In 2014 Bilbao was distinguished as Young Visual Artist by CPAI – Clube Português de Artes e Ideias (Portugal).

Solo exhibitions include Lighted by a Searing Light at Travessa da Ermida (2019), O último brilho da estrela que morre [The last gleam of a dying star] at UMA LULIK__ (2018), Fallacious Memory at Caroline Pagès Gallery (2014) and Presente passado [Past present] at Boavista Gallery (2013).
