Held form 30th March to 2nd April 2017, Art Paris Art Fair is a springtime art fair focusing on discovery. Art Paris Art Fair brings together 139 galleries from 29 countries at the Grand Palais to explore European art from the post war period to the present day as well as international emerging art scenes.
Since 2012, the fair has built a reputation for its exploration of art scenes from around the world. After Asia, Art Paris Art Fair continues in its commitment to bring to light emerging art scenes. In 2017 Africa is guest of honour with a project curated by independent cultural consultant and exhibition curator Marie-Ann Yemsi. The objective is to work with galleries and artists from both the African continent and the diaspora to highlight the richness and diversity of contemporary African creativity. A symposium, a programme of video projections and several special projects will broaden this exploration and offer an in-depth vision of the creative fertility and energy of the African continent.
Introduced in 2015, the “Solo Show” section includes some 20 galleries disseminated throughout the fair. This section designed to encourage the discovery or rediscovery of the work of a particular modern, contemporary or emerging artist. Special sponsored rates apply to “Solo Show” and a significant media campaign is designed to promote it. This includes the renewed partnership between Art Paris Art Fair and Le Bus Direct Paris Aeroport. In this joint project, five artists from the 2017 “Solo Show” section are selected and their work displayed on the buses.
Art Paris Art Fair supports young galleries and emerging talents. The “Promises” section is dedicated to young galeries that are under six years old. It is located in the centre of the Grand Palais and is made up of 12 galleries that may present up to three artists maximum. The fair covers part of their costs.
At Art Paris Art Fair, the North and South walls of the Grand Palais are made available for rare historic works or specific contemporary creations.
The City of Lights is experiencing an exceptional artistic and architectural regeneration with the opening in 2017 of several new institutions and foundations. The “Springtime in Paris” VIP programme offers collectors and art professionals access to the best of what is on in Paris, this year with a special focus on Africa.
Art Paris Art Fair is dedicated to making contemporary art accessible to the widest possible audience, offering some 80 guided tours of the fair as well as a number of specific tools, in particular its elaborate yet eminently practical website. It presents a virtual visit of the fair and filters that allow visitors to search for works by artist, price, geographical provenance and technique. Also available on location are flyers for each gallery that provide visitors with information on the works on offer and a way to navigate the fair.
